Description: This lesson uses the story, “In the Chicken Coop,” from the Text Project Website. This lesson warms up with counting and a shape puzzle. Reading the story and answering emergent reading comprehension questions, followed by a craft activity related to the story and using the prepositions, “in” and “out” are the nucleus of the lesson. Parent engagement is encouraged with the use of the Translation Bookmark (available in Burmese, Karen, Spanish).
Story – download at another website: Follow the link to the Text Project website. This website groups twelve stories into one download. Click here to access the group with “In the Chicken Coop.” Print pages 5-6 (Book 3).
Resource Files: Click on the numbered, orange file names below the heading, “Book Resource Files,” to download. Individual file names highlight the user and printing needs:
- “Educator” means 1 copy for the Educator to reuse
- “Student” means the file is consumable, so need to print one copy per student
- “Parent” means files to leave with each family to use
Since this lesson has multiple files in languages other than English, the individual files are followed by “Language” Sets. This combines the student and family files with the home languages English, Burmese, Karen, and Spanish).
