Audience

METS staff who are new to using the Early Childhood Academic Tool (ECA), and have potential to provide regular, meaningful instruction with the P3-P5 students in their caseload.

Description

Everything you need to know about giving the ECA is in the most recent NYS-MEP ECA Guidance Document. These two videos chunk the details into two parts and walk you through the process.

ECA Deep Dive Part 1: Introduction
Part 1 introduces you to the Early Childhood Academic Tool (ECA), its uses, its components and what you can prepare ahead of time to be ready to give the ECA. This sets you up for success when you dive deeper into the administration details. (Length: 25 minutes)

Handouts: For the best experience, please have the ECA Deep Dive Part 1 AGENDA, with its key terms and abbreviations. (See “Workshop Resources,” below, to access video and handouts.)

ECA Deep Dive Part 2: Administration Guidelines & Scoring Criteria
Part 2 walks you through each question and scoring criteria. The presenter models using the props to engage students, so it is just another lesson of activities for the child and demonstrates using the scoring criteria in a variety of scenarios. (Length: 1 hour and 17 minutes)

Handouts: For the best experience, please have the following handouts where you can access them – either printed or open on your computer:
•    ECA Deep Dive Part 2-AGENDA
•    ECA Guidance Document NYS-MEP 2024-25
•    One of the ECA-fillable Student response sheets, in English or Spanish

OBJECTIVES

By the end of both videos, Educators will be able to use the NYS-MEP ECA Guidance Document to

  1. Prepare for the ECA
  2. Administer the ECA
  3. Score & Record Student Responses
