Early Childhood

Early Childhood: Supporting Parents to Talk, Read, and Sing

This new virtual book in the Resource Library pairs simple stories with related picture-word cards to give parents tools for expanding their child’s language. Each set has a unique Parent Tip to encourage parents to talk, read, and sing with their child every day.

Determining ELA Instructional Focus

When you have a student who needs help with reading fluency, you can use a few quick tests to pinpoint the skills the student needs by using the Phonics Screener.

Graduation Plan Part 2

The relationships with students and the conversations you have are the base for the Graduation Plan Part 2. This plan can become a living document that guides holistic service and helps to broaden students’ sense of expectation for themselves.
 
The Graduation Plan Guidance Document references Chapter 8 about goal setting from the book, Turnaround Tools for the Teenage Brain. Click here to read an excerpt on goal setting.

A new page on the NYS-MEP website with a variety of resources for Out-of-School Youth. Here are a couple of examples.

  • Creating a Padlet Page – A “How To Guide” to make an online bulletin board
  • OSY Consortium – Links and descriptions of the website and some of its resources
  • NYCAMH Handouts - Highlights farm health and safety articles. Look for their great resources about Cold Weather Safety/Precauciones con el frío and Influenza/Precauciones con la influenza at Farmworker Education.

(DASA) Protecting Your Children: What Parents Need to Know About Bullying

Information about the NYS Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) and resources to support parents with the knowledge they need to advocate for their family. Developed by Tracey D. Messinger, MS.Ed., SUNY Cortland DASA Lecturer and Cortland METS Educator.

Professional Development

New Employee Orientation 

These modules compliment what Directors are providing at the local level. The overall focus is on statewide themes that support the Theory of Action (ToA) and its holistic approach.
 
This month’s highlight: Partnering with Families to Support Children’s Development. Participants will focus on establishing a learning environment in someone else’s home/space. It reflects the ToA in action for new employees and veterans alike.
