Description

The Simply Speaking English Language Learning book is a convenient and useful resource for delivering instruction to Out-of-School Youth (OSY). This book has been created to support beginner-level English Language Learners (ELLs) in learning some survival English vocabulary and phrases that are specific to where they live and work in New York State. OSY receive a physical copy of this book in the backpacks they are given by Recruiters when they have a COE completed. Simply Speaking is also available in a virtual, fillable format through the NYS-MEP website. During this session, we will learn how you can best utilize this language learning resource as a virtual or in-person instructional curriculum for your students, as well as how to support students who may be using the book for independent study. Participants will learn about suggested activities and materials to supplement the lessons in the book, and will have the chance to discuss how this resource is being used by other educators across New York State.

The content in this presentation is geared towards serving the migrant populations in New York State as defined under Title I, Part C and the approved State Service Delivery Plan, and may NOT be appropriate to all situations.
