DESCRIPTION
Join us to find out how eligible students can apply for the SUNY Oneonta Migrant Leadership Academy (SOMLA). Presenters, Odilia Coffta and Emily Callaghan, will cover what's new for 2025, eligibility, logistics, and recruitment. We will answer your questions along the way!
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SOMLA
The SUNY Oneonta Migrant Leadership Academy (SOMLA) is a NYS-MEP summer program that provides eligible migrant students with the opportunity to learn about college, work possibilities, leadership qualities, and successful life strategies as they work towards graduating high school. Students explore various life skills, learn about leveraging their individual strengths and create a long-term plan to work on areas of personal growth that reflects their passions and interests. Students also get to have fun with field trips and other planned activities. Lasting friendships are made in the process and students leave SOMLA with a new network of people who are there to help them as they return home and use what they have learned.
We are excited that SOMLA can be offered again this year in-person at SUNY Oneonta! Students get to stay in residence halls just like traditional college students and have the chance to experience what life is like on campus.
The content in this presentation is geared towards serving the migrant populations in New York State as defined under Title I, Part C and the approved State Service Delivery Plan, and may NOT be appropriate to all situations.
