Description
In this workshop, we dive into the protections created within the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) and how they intersect with our work with schools on behalf of migrant students. We will also explore how to identify risk factors for students and practice completing a DASA complaint form.
Objectives
- Understand the parameters of DASA, who is protected and where students are covered.
- Identify risk factors for students.
- Develop skills for understanding the reporting and investigation process.
About the Presenter
Tracey D. Messinger, M.S. Ed., Migrant Specialist and DASA Lecturer
Tracey has over 30 years of experience working in crisis management, prevention education, community advocacy, and 19 years and counting of working with the Migrant Education Program. Tracey worked as part of a team to develop the SUNY Cortland DASA workshops that are required for teacher certification and has been a lecturer for over nine years. She also developed DASA workshops for the NYS-MEP for parents, students, and staff.
